Lansbury is struggling at Aston Villa under Dean Smith.
It all began so well for Henri Lansbury. A £2.75million (BBC Sport) signing for Aston Villa from Nottingham Forest in January 2017, the playmaker has slowly fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park.
Just 31 appearances later, costing Villa a costly £89,000 a match, Lansbury has been ostracised by new manager Dean Smith. The former Arsenal man has managed just one Carabao Cup appearance this season.
The likes of Jack Grealish, John McGinn and others have pushed the 17-time England Under-21 international way down the rankings at Villa, leaving him with little chance of resurrecting his career at Villa Park.
One thing is for sure. Lansbury has to look for a move away from Villa, with the club likely to sanction a move as he is expected to be earning a decent pay cheque. Getting him off the wage bill will be an aim for Smith.
It should convince Nottingham Forest and Aitor Karanka to sign their former captain in their boost for promotion from the Championship and into the Premier League.
Forest currently sit in sixth place and just four points off the top. But after winning only six of their 16 Championship matches, Forest need a bit of invigoration to turn their eight draws into wins.
Adding a player like Lansbury will not only delight fans and develop some enthusiasm at the City Ground, but signing their former captain will give Forest a player who can score goals from deep.
In his 150 league and cup appearances at Forest, Lansbury scored more than a goal every five outings with 33 strikes. He also created another 20 in assists.
Re-signing Lansbury will give Forest all the tools they need to march on towards promotion.
