Nottingham Forest could arguably do with bolstering their goalkeeper options, so perhaps Celtic’s Dorus De Vries should be on their radar.

With Adam Federici bringing a premature end to his loan spell at Nottingham Forest back in September, Mark Warburton would certainly be forgiven for wanting to strengthen his goalkeeper options during the January transfer window.

None of Forest’s remaining goalkeeper options stand out as being ready to stamp their authority on the number one spot at the moment – though Jordan Smith looks set for an extremely bright future – so perhaps Warburton should look to a player who left the City Ground last season as one who could provide a short-term answer until the summer.

Dorus De Vries was a popular member of the Forest squad before his move to Celtic in 2016. And while he initially managed to become the Hoops’ number one, he has endured a fairly frustrating time at Parkhead.

The 36-year-old may therefore, fancy a move back to a club where he previously won the Player of the Season award if the chance presented itself in the January transfer window. And if Celtic have a suitable back-up for Craig Gordon waiting in the wings, the Hoops will surely have many qualms about letting him leave.

If former Rangers boss Warburton did make a move for the Celtic man and they did manage to land him, his experience would arguably make him a useful signing, even if Smith maintains his spot as number one.

The 22-year-old will be able to use the Dutchman’s experience to bring his own game on, and Warburton will know that if Smith’s form dips, he has a reliable option available to him to take some of the pressure off until he works out who he would like Forest’s long-term number one to be.
