The Turkish striker continues to be monitored by Newcastle United.
According to the Sun, Newcastle United are continuing to monitor Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, and given their need for an experienced, prolific front man, the Magpies may be wise to go all out for the 26-year-old in January.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez bemoaned the inflated transfer market back in the summer, with the Magpies slow to complete their business, although they ultimately impressed by bringing in the likes of Florian Lejeune and Mikel Merino.
While forward Joselu also arrived at St. James’ Park, he is far from the prolific striker Newcastle need to reach the next level, and Tosun’s goal-return at Beskitas suggests he would be a risk worth taking – if the price is right.
There is also a chance a forward is unable to recreate his best form in a new league, and the English top flight is an unforgiving arena. But Tosun’s return of 54 goals in 127 matches for Besiktas, including 20 in 33 league games last time out, means he is an exciting prospect.
Newcastle may not have spent big in the summer but if they are willing to go the extra mile in January it could make all the difference in the years ahead.
Tosun’s contract situation also means he could be available for cheaper than when Newcastle first came looking, with just a 18 months remaining on his contract by the time January rolls around.
