Newcastle United were keen on bringing the Sheffield Wednesday forward to St James’ Park last summer.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri
Fernando Forestieri’s future at Sheffield Wednesday was the topic of much conversation and rumour last summer. The Italian forward, was reported by the Daily Star as being wanted by Derby County and Newcastle United.
And now, after missing out on promotion again this season, Fernando Forestieri’s future against appears to be in doubt, with many fans convinced that they have seen the last of their top scorer.
Scoring 12 goals this campaign, Fernando Forestieri has been Sheffield Wednesday’s most consistent goal-scoring threat this season. However, the Italian has at times been labelled as having an attitude problem, and there is, on occasions, a perceived lack of effort.
On his day, Forestieri is one of the most lethal attacking players in the Championship. But on an off day, the Italian has driven fans to frustration, with many ambivalent as to whether the forward stays of leaves. With this in mind, should Newcastle United consider another bid this summer?

Newcastle United’s promotion to the Premier League certainly puts them in a strong position to potentially bring in the Italian. With the added funds and the added lure of top flight football, Forestieri may be more than tempted to join the Magpies this summer, should they come knocking.
This will be partnered by Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion failure. After finishing fourth in the table and reaching the play-offs, many believed this year would be the Owls’ year to clinch promotion. But a penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield Town has left Sheffield Wednesday out in the cold once again.
Newcastle United are also likely to be in the market for another attacking midfielder this summer. Many expected the Magpies to bring one in during the January transfer window, through the form of Andros Townsend, Ben Osborn or Tom Ince. With this in mind, could they revive their interest in Forestieri this summer?
