Should Newcastle United renew an interest in Kevin Trapp?

The Daily Mail reported this week that big-spending Paris Saint-Germain are set to take an interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma next month.

If they are successful in signing the 18-year-old, it has major implications for Kevin Trapp and Newcastle United should offer him an escape route to Tyneside.

Newcastle’s need for a top-class goalkeeper was highlighted again on Wednesday when an error from Karl Darlow gifted Everton a 1-0 win at St James’s Park.

The 25-year-old was also culpable for Riyad Mahrez’s opener on Saturday as the Magpies lost 3-2 at home to Leicester City and surely Rafael Benitez needs to consider an alternative in January.

The Telegraph reported back in August that Benitez was interested in a late swoop for Trapp, before cooling their interest.

But perhaps it’s time to warm it back because Darlow is costing United points and if the Spaniard thinks he’s the best man for the job then they will continue to hemorrhage them.

Trapp, contracted to the French capital side until 2020, is worth around £8.8 million according to Transfermarkt.
