With West Bromwich Albion dropping their asking price for Callum McManaman, now may be the time for Newcastle United to make a move.
Newcastle targeted a move for McManaman last summer (Shields Gazette), but ultimately decided against making a bid for the winger.
At that stage, West Brom still had hopes that the former Wigan Athletic man would come good.
However, according to the Express and Star, West Brom are now prepared to cut their losses on the 26-year-old.
The Baggies were looking to recoup over £4 million for McManaman, but Tony Pulis’ side have significantly reduced their asking price in the hope of a quick sale.
And, with Rafael Benitez thought to be an admirer of McManaman, Newcastle now could sense the opportunity to pick up a bargain.
McManaman has not been at his best in recent times, with the attacking struggling to find a settled home.
Yet, when on top form, he has all the attributes required to be a threat at any level.
And if Benitez could get McManaman back to his optimum form, then he could prove to be a smart buy for Newcastle this summer.
