Rafael Benitez is keen to sign a proven goal-scorer in the January transfer window.

According to reports from The Sunday Sun (printed edition; page 79), Benitez wants two strikers and a number ten, but financial constraints means he may have to ship players out if no takeover takes place before January.

Benitez has reportedly compiled two lists for a transfer window, where he feels bolstering the attacking department is a priority.

Cenk Tosun of Turkey is challenged by Domagoj Vida of Croatia during the UEFA EURO 2016 Group D match between Turkey and Croatia at Parc des Princes on June 12, 2016 in Paris, France.

Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun is one of Benitez’s top targets in January. The German-born Turkey international has been prolific for Besiktas in both the Champions League and domestic football over the past two seasons.

Newcastle United have scouted him heavily this season, but his 17 million price-tag could prove to be a big stumbling block in securing his signature.

The Magpies have also been linked with Danny Ings, while Benitez also reportedly likes Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, who has just returned from a long-term injury.

The 25-year-old has been on Bournemouth’s book since 2014, and has scored 31 goals in 78 appearances for the club.

Wilson scored 20 goals in his debut season for the Cherries when he was in the championship. Last season, he scored only six goals in 20 games in the Premier League.

Wilson will be a cheaper alternative than Tosun. He is young and has Premier League experience on his side, and is certainly a risk worth taking.
