Newcastle United reportedly tried to sign Ross Barkley last summer, but failed in their attempts.

Newcastle should look to rescue Ross Barkley from his Chelsea nightmare in the summer.

Newcastle wanted Barkley last year, when it was announced that he would be leaving Everton, according to the Daily Mail, but the deal was out of their reach at that point.

Barkley wanted a move to a title chasing side, and he got the switch he craved in January, when he was signed by Chelsea.

However, the England international’s time at Stamford Bridge has been terrible so far.

And Newcastle should now consider making a repeat offer for the attacking midfielder.

Barkley was actually handed a rare start for Chelsea last weekend at St. James’ Park, but he failed to impress, with Newcastle running out 3-0 winners.

Barkley unquestionably has the talent to be a star though, and if Newcastle could bring him to Tyneside he would surely improve Rafael Benitez’s side.

Barkley could offer Newcastle creativity and skill in advanced areas, and Benitez would be wise to announce his interest in the 24-year-old for the second summer running, as there seems a much greater chance of the Magpies getting a deal done this year.
