Andros Townsend left Newcastle United for Crystal Palace in 2016.

Andros Townsend is a divisive figure among Newcastle United fans.
The England winger had a brilliant end to the 2015-16 campaign under Rafael Benitez, but jumped ship to join Crystal Palace in a £12 million deal that summer after the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship.
But with the Eagles sitting 18th in the Premier League, Townsend could be relegated for the second time in three years and should Newcastle look at bringing him back to St James’s Park if that happens?
Some fans of the North-East club would refuse to have him, while others would be delighted, but surely he is a better option than Matt Ritchie on the right-hand side of attack.

They have both only scored two Premier League goals this season, but Townsend bagged three in his last eight games under Benitez in 2016 and maybe the Spanish manager could breathe new life into the 26-year-old if he worked with him again.
If Newcastle survive this season then Benitez will simply need much better players to help United kick on next season, and re-signing Townsend would certainly represent a promising, if controversial, start.
