With more than half of the January transfer window now gone Newcastle United are still yet to make a single new signing.
It makes for a frustrating time for manager Rafa Benitez, although according to the Sun there is still a chance a new goalkeeper could arrive, at least, with Napoli’s Pepe Reina being strongly linked.

Apparently the Magpies have allocated £10m and £100,000-a-week to Benitez to land a new stopper, but while improving the position appears to be a priority should they use that money differently?
Wilshere’s current contract with the Gunners expires this summer and he has been linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium this month, with the Daily Star reporting Newcastle were among the sides interested in his signature.

It is not known exactly how much it would cost to sign the 25-year-old, but taking into account he will be a free agent in six months time suggests it would be significantly less than in normal circumstances.
Plus, the North East outfit have the budget to match Wilshere’s current earnings, so would it be worth submitting a £10m bid and seeing if the North Londoners accept?
