Rafa Benitez should undoubtedly join the race to sign Steven Bergwijn as Newcastle United attempt to build on the promise they showed this past season.

When Rafa Benitez considers what areas of his Newcastle squad require the most attention over the summer, it would be little surprise if he felt that his options in the final third needed bolstering with just two players in the squad managing more than four Premier League goals.
Kenedy was a superb addition to the Magpies’ squad following his loan arrival in January, but there is no guarantee that he will be returning to St James’ Park in the summer. And without him, Newcastle fans will fear that they are considerably more predictable going forward.

Getting Kenedy back would be a sensational piece of business from Benitez, but he should also consider joining the cluster of Premier League sides chasing PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn.
The Daily Mirror reported that West Ham and Bournemouth are keen, while De Telegraaf suggested that Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are also all interested in signing the 20-year-old.
Bergwijn has enjoyed a sensational season in the Eredivisie, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in the top flight and forming part of a lethal front three with Hirving Lozano and Luuk de Jong. Newcastle should undoubtedly join the race.

Bergwijn is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and already boasts a frightening ability when it comes to dribbling and creating opportunities for his teammates. He could be a superb replacement for Kenedy, while Newcastle would have one of the most exciting pairs of wingers in the division if Benitez was able to bring both men to the club over the coming months.
After such a promising first season back at the highest level, Newcastle should be targeting showing some major ambition in the transfer market. Beating five of their top flight rivals to Bergwijn’s signature would certainly help show how serious the Magpies are about re-establishing themselves at England’s top table.
