Everton are reportedly keen on Wass, but he would be perfect for Newcastle.
Everton are reportedly interested in landing Celta Vigo midfielder Daniel Wass this summer for a bargain fee of £5million, but surely the Denmark international would be perfect for Newcastle?
The Sun on Sunday (print edition, page 60, June 3, 2018) claim 29-year-old Wass is a target for the Toffees, along with Valencia and AS Roma, both of whom will be playing Champions League football next season.
It is believed that Wass will be allowed to leave Celta Vigo, who have made him available for a cut-price deal this summer with only a year remaining on the former Evian star’s contract.
But with Everton boasting a number of central midfielders such as Tom Davies, Idrissa Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin and more, surely a move to Goodison Park would see Wass struggle for regular game time.
Instead, Newcastle should reignite their reported interest from three years ago and consider luring the midfielder to St. James’ Park this summer with Mikel Merino linked with a return to Spain.
Tribal Football reported back in 2015 that The Toon were keen on Wass, who instead moved to La Liga side Celta. Known for his technique, the ex-Brondby star boasts has enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Spanish outfit.
He scored four goals and added another nine assists from the middle of the park, something which Newcastle’s central midfielders struggled to do on a consistent basis throughout 2017-18.
Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey managed to score two goals apiece for Rafa Benitez’s side, and if the Magpies are to replicate a tenth-placed finish or better, they need a midfielder who can score from deep.
At just £5million, landing Wass would be an excellent summer signing and give Benitez an added attacking dimension from deep.
