Newcastle United reportedly made a summer bid for Liverpool striker Danny Ings, so perhaps they should make a fresh move in January.

Back in July, the Daily Mail reported that Newcastle were keen on signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings and made a loan enquiry for the 25-year-old.

Ings has endured a difficult time since arriving at Anfield, and has not made a Premier League appearance for the club since 2016 and has played just once in the top flight since Jurgen Klopp arrived.

Danny Ings of Burnley gives the thunbs up after the Barclays Premier League match between Burnley and Stoke City at Turf Moor on May 16, 2015 in Burnley, England.

Injuries have plagued the former Burnley man’s time on Merseyside and now he is struggling to get back into the Reds side, having made one appearance this season – the 2-0 League Cup defeat to Leicester in September.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have made a bright start to the season following their return to the Premier League, but Rafa Benitez’s men could surely do with greater depth up front with Joselu and centre-back Jamaal Lascelles their current top goalscorers with two goals each.

So perhaps the Magpies should make a fresh attempt to land the forward when the January transfer window opens as a deal may suit all parties.

A fresh loan move would give Ings the chance to prove that he can shake off an image of being injury-prone, while Liverpool would be able to get him back into their ranks in the summer if he does impress at St James’ Park.

And by bringing him in on loan, Newcastle would be eliminating most of the risk that would be involved in any potential deal, and they know what he could be capable of if they does manage to stay fit and find something like his best form.
