Newcastle are lacking in a top-class striker despite signing Joselu in the summer.
Ahead of the January transfer window, Newcastle’s aims are simple. Sign a proven striker that can score regularly in England’s top tier, or face relegation.
Summer signing Joselu has managed just two Premier League goals which have come as tap-ins, while Aleksander Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle are on one league strike each.
It will come as painful viewing then, to see that former Toon fan favourite Papiss Cisse is in explosive form with Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng after joining the club from Newcastle in July 2016 following the Toon’s relegation to the Championship.

Cisse, 32, has scored an impressive 11 goals in 18 Super League outings, with the Chinese season finishing earlier this month before the 2018 edition begins in March next year.
The Guardian claim Senegal international Cisse is earning a huge £150,000 a week to play in China, as he continues to shine alongside high-profile strikers Diego Tardelli and Graziano Pelle, with former Fulham boss Felix Magath as manager.
Cisse was well-liked on Tyneside as he scored 44 goals during his 131 Newcastle appearances, but is likely to be making Newcastle fans regret their club’s decision to sell him rather than look to keep him on side.
Newcastle next face West Brom at the Hawthons on Tuesday night in the Premier League and they will be hoping that they can replicate some of Cisse’s form in Asia to fire them to three points.
