Newcastle United need to add more quality to their squad this summer, so perhaps they should look at Aaron Mooy again.

Heading into the final round of games in Group C at the World Cup, Australia actually have a very good chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition, and a key reason for their promising start to the competition is the form of Aaron Mooy, a player Newcastle United reportedly wanted in 2017.
Mooy has been superb at the heart of the Aussies’ midfield. They were denied any points against France but the Huddersfield Town ace was excellent, and he followed it up on Thursday with an even better display in the draw with Denmark that means that Australia could still progress out of the group.

Mooy’s performances will come as no surprise to any Terriers fan who has seen the 27-year-old play regularly over the last two years, and it may perhaps also come as little surprise to Magpies boss Rafa Benitez.
Australian publication The World Game reported in May 2017 that Newcastle wanted to sign the midfielder. And while they missed out on that occasion, Mooy’s form should convince the Magpies to have another look at him this summer.
Benitez’s men finished in the top-half last season, but the Spaniard will not be under any illusions regarding how much work they need to do over the coming months to ensure that their top flight stay is not a brief one.

Mooy is the kind of playmaker who would definitely improve Newcastle’s options. He has shown in the last two games that he is more than happy to dictate play when he comes up against some of the world’s best, and he has also provided plenty of goals and assists during his time in Yorkshire.
It remains to be seen what a good World Cup will do for Mooy’s price-tag upon his return to the Premier League, but Newcastle should certainly make an enquiry as he could prove to be a game-changing signing for the Magpies next year.
