Newcastle United should challenge Stoke City for the Wolverhampton Wanderers hitman.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has a lot of work to do at St James’ Park this summer, if he is to guide his side to an improvement upon their 10th placed finish in the Premier League table last term.
One particular area where the Spaniard will want to improve is his forward department, especially with Dwight Gayle being linked with a move to Stoke City, according to the Daily Mail.
If the Magpies do in fact sell the 27-year-old, they will obviously have to bring in an able bodied replacement, and an ideal option for them could be Wolves hitman Benik Afobe.
The 25-year-old joined Wolves from Bournemouth last Friday but, incredibly, he is already being linked with a move away from Molineux, according to the Telegraph, who suggest that Wolves will be willing to sell him for £12 million – a £2 million profit on the £10 million that they paid for his services just eight days ago.
The speedy striker could be a useful addition to Rafa’s squad, and would offer the Spaniard an entirely different option through the middle.
Afobe is a clinical finisher, and possesses pace in abundance, which he uses to stretch the opposition, and thus creating more space in the middle of the pitch for his teammates.
£12 million is a drop in the ocean in today’s ludicrously inflated transfer market, and Newcastle should not hesitate in attempting to hijack Stoke’s reported move for the Wolves ace.
