Newcastle United are facing a crucial January transfer window as they look to get themselves out of trouble in the Premier League.

With Newcastle falling into the Premier League’s bottom three at the weekend, there is no question that the January transfer window will be absolutely crucial for Rafa Benitez and he cannot allow it to close without strengthening his squad.
The Guardian recently reported that Benitez could have £30 million to spend next month as talk of a takeover at St James’ Park rumbles on, and if he does get that amount, he should perhaps consider taking a gamble on a striker whose asking price would wipe out that budget completely.

Dembele has been brilliant during his time in the Scottish Premiership. And any doubts regarding the quality that can come from that division only need to look at the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama to see that some brilliant players emerge from north of the border.

The former Fulham man has scored 21 times in just 39 top flight games for the Hoops – and that record becomes even more impressive when you consider that he has started just 25 times – and has a handful of goals in the Champions League.
It appears that inevitable that Dembele will move to a more competitive league at some stage, and Newcastle should consider trying to bring him to England next month as it could be a gamble that inspires a turnaround in their season.
It would be a huge gamble with a number of areas within the squad looking alarmingly poor right now, but with 16 goals in 18 games thus far, strengthening their options up front is undoubtedly a must.
And rather than spend around £5 million – which is what they paid for Joselu, according to BBC Sport – on six players, rolling the dice on making just one marquee signing, and perhaps looking to the loan and free transfer market to make further additions, may be an inspired move.
