Newcastle United should consider making an approach for Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy.

With Newcastle now in the relegation zone in the Premier League, it is certainly safe to say that next month’s window is a crucial one for Rafa Benitez’s side as they look to get themselves out of trouble.
There are several areas of the Magpies’ squad that may well be alarming Benitez, and he may feel that his transfer budget may not stretch as far as he would like it to – so using the loan market would certainly be a wise move.

So perhaps Newcastle should take notice after Mathieu Debuchy told French outlet RMC Sport that he would be keen to leave Arsenal during the January window after a lack of game-time at the Emirates.
It has certainly been a frustrating time for the 32-year-old, with no appearances in the Premier League this term as he continues to be kept out of the side by Hector Bellerin.

When Debuchy has been given a chance however – he has featured in the Carabao Cup and Europa League – he has arguably looked very impressive, and if he is available next month, Benitez should offer the Frenchman the chance to return to St James’ Park three years after his departure.
Newcastle look particularly poor at full-back right now, so adding Debuchy’s experience and quality to their defence may be an extremely shrewd move – especially as he will have a point to prove after such a frustrating spell at the Emirates Stadium.
