Ahead of Manchester City away and the visit of Arsenal and Chelsea, should David Moyes’ record v top six worry West Ham fans?
Joe Hart of West Ham United looks dejected after the Premier League match against Everton.
With West Ham United in the Premier League relegation zone and two points off safety after 14 matches, things don’t get much easier for the Hammers in December.
First up for the East London outfit is an away trip to runaway leaders Manchester City, whose draw with Everton is the only time they have failed to win in the English top flight this season.
Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola celebrates after Raheem Sterling scores his team’s second goal during the English Premier League match against Southampton.
After that reigning champions Chelsea and then Arsenal visit the London Stadium, which could leave West Ham in the bottom three as the halfway mark of the 2017/18 campaign quickly approaches.
What makes this daunting run of games all the more concerning for fans of the club is that their manager David Moyes has a quite frankly awful record against the division’s top six.
Last term, while in charge of Sunderland, the Gunners, the Blues, City and Manchester United beat them home and away. They were also on the end of defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, with draws against those latter two the only points the Black Cats took away from teams in the upper echelons.
It could be argued that it is difficult for Moyes to compete with a struggling Sunderland side, but even when the Scot was Red Devils boss in 2013/14 his record wasn’t much better. A win against Arsenal was the only high point that campaign, with the Reds and Man City beating him home and away and Spurs and Chelsea also triumphant.
David Moyes, manager of West Ham United, looks on prior to the Premier League match against Everton.
From those two seasons, Moyes record reads; won 1, drawn 5, lost 16. Unfortunately, during his Everton days things weren’t much better for the 54-year-old.
For much of his stint at Goodison Park the so-called top four were generally Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United. Moyes’ record against those teams during his 11 years with the Toffees was; lost 27, drawn 16, won 0.
It’s fair to say things are stacked against the Hammers at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday (December 2).
