Robert Huth is leaving Leicester so should Middlesbrough re-sign him if they are promoted?

Robert Huth of Leicester City looks on during the Premier League 2 match between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur at Holmes Park on January 3, 2018 in Leicester, England.

Leicester City have confirmed on their official website that Robert Huth will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Huth has spent three years at the King Power Stadium and was instrumental in them winning the Premier League title against the odds in 2015/16 during his first campaign with the Foxes, playing 35 times and scoring three goals.

An injury-ravaged 12 months has meant that the centre-back has not made a single first team appearance for Leicester this term and will be a free agent as of this summer.

Where next?

Huth may be rusty after a year on the sidelines and will turn 34 in August, but could well still have something to offer in the top flight of English football – especially for promoted clubs.

The German would bring some experience at the back with 323 games to his name in the division to date and perhaps Middlesbrough would consider taking the defender back to the Riverside.

Huth spent three years with Boro after leaving Chelsea in 2006 and under current manager Tony Pulis, they could well return to the top flight next term having reached the Championship playoffs this time around.

Ben Gibson and Daniel Ayala have been the club’s preferred partnership at the back in 2017/18, but with Ryan Shotton and Martin Cranie often used at right-back and Dael Fry still only 20-years-old and inexperienced, there could well be a place if the former Stoke City man returned.
