Marvin Compper joined Celtic during the January transfer window, but has managed just one appearance for the Hoops.

Heading into the Scottish Cup clash with Morton at the start of the month, Celtic fans would have been forgiven for forgetting every now and then that they had signed Marvin Compper during the January transfer window.
Compper was signed from RB Leipzig and was injured for much of the early part of his spell with the Hoops. However, Celtic fans were finally able to see the 32-year-old in action against the Scottish Championship side.

It was an encouraging debut for the German – after an early mistake – as the Bhoys ultimately booked a semi-final spot, and that may have led some to suggest that he may be in contention to start the following week’s Old Firm game.
However, it was Dedryck Boyata who got the nod at Ibrox with Compper missing from the squad altogether. But he may have had some hope that he would come back into the team against Motherwell on Sunday as Boyata endured a miserable afternoon against the Gers, despite Brendan Rodgers’ men coming out on top.

But surprisingly, Boyata kept his place against Well while Compper was left on the bench, and that is where he would remain throughout the entire game despite the Belgian putting in another unconvincing display in the stalemate.
Having only arrived a couple of months ago and having been injured for a significant time, Rodgers may be taking a slow approach with Compper, but the signs are arguably concerning for the centre-back.
Given his age and experience, he was clearly signed to make an immediate impact but he now appears to already be a rotation option for the Bhoys – and that makes little sense given how poor Boyata has been lately.
Rodgers may still have important plans for Compper, but the current signs are troubling and just hint that he may soon have questions about his future less than six months after arriving at Parkhead.
