Madger Gomes has had to be patient for opportunities since joining Leeds United in the summer, but the talented young midfielder will hope to feature in the FA Cup third round tie away to Newport County on Sunday.

It was against Newport County in the EFL Cup earlier this season that Gomes played his only full game to date for Leeds, and the Spanish youth international deserves another opportunity to impress this weekend.

The former Liverpool youngster is an impressive distributor of the ball and has good technique, but getting into the first-team setup at Leeds has proved to be problematic so far.

Should he receive a runout against Newport County, however, Gomes will be presented with an opportunity to prove to manager Thomas Christiansen that he should be involved in the club’s remaining Championship fixtures in some capacity.

Leeds will be determined to avoid suffering an upset against Newport County, but at the same time Christiansen will be eager to assess the options that he has at his disposal and to give game time to players who have been on the periphery of proceedings so far this season.
