The Manchester City left-back would fill a problem position at Liverpool.

Reds boss Jürgen Klopp will be quietly confident of his side’s chances of success next term, but he will need to undoubtedly strengthen in certain areas ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

One particular area of concern at Anfield for the German will be the left-back position, with James Milner having to perform the auxiliary role for the entirety of last season.

Whilst the 31-year-old performed admirably, he cannot be relied upon to continue playing in that position for another season, so the addition of an established left-back will surely feature highly on Klopp’s agenda this summer.

And with this in mind, Liverpool should consider a move for Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov, who has been linked with a move to Roma this summer, according to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web.

The 31-year-old has all of the attributes that Klopp loves in a full-back. He is renowned for his attacking excursions down the left-flank, and possesses a potent delivery.

He is also a set-piece specialist, and with his left foot, he would offer the Reds great variation from corners and free-kicks.

Whilst City would surely be reluctant to sell the Serbian to a direct rival, he has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad, so they might just be tempted to sanction his exit, rather than lose him for nothing next year.

Liverpool will surely face some competition, however, should they attempt to bring Kolarov to Anfield, but the pull of a manger with Klopp’s reputation can hold huge sway when attempting to recruit potential targets.

And if the Merseyside outfit do manage to acquire the City star, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for them this season.
