Rangers wanted to bring Adam Lewis to Ibrox over the summer.

Liverpool have one star left back in Andrew Robertson, but the Reds will be forced to consider their options at the position in 2019 due to Alberto Moreno’s impending exit.

Moreno is out of contract at the end of the season, and the Spaniard is set to walk away on a free transfer at the end of the season according to a recent report from Goal.

That leaves Liverpool to consider their second-choice left back for next season, and the report suggested that teenager Adam Lewis is set for a promotion rather than Liverpool signing another left back.

It was even noted that Rangers wanted to take Lewis on loan over the summer, and if Liverpool intend to use him around their first team next season, it may be smart for the Reds to send him to Ibrox for the second half of the season.

Experiencing a real first-team setup for six months before rubbing shoulders with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk would be ideal for Lewis, rather than being thrust into the Liverpool first team mix next summer.

Rangers added a left back over the summer in Borna Barisic, but Lee Wallace looks set to leave in January, whilst Jon Flanagan shouldn’t be used on the left, as he often slows down attacks cutting back onto his right foot.

18-year-old Lewis played under Gerrard for Liverpool’s Under-18’s last season, and even admitted to the club’s official website last month that he has become a Rangers fan off the back of Gerrard’s move, adding that he misses his former manager.

Reuniting the pair for in January would give Rangers another natural left back option whilst preparing him for Liverpool first-team action, if Klopp really does plan on promoting the teenager – and having held an interest in a summer move, a January move arguably makes even more sense.
