Should Leeds United try using Egzjan Alioski up front from time to time if they fail to sign a striker?
Leeds United fans are crying out for the addition of a striker this month – and rightly so.
Kemar Roofe has the occasional hat-trick in him but the £3m attacker is nowhere near consistent enough to be the first-choice striker in a promotion-winning side, while Pierre-Michel Lasogga, on loan from Hamburg, goes off the boil far too often.
With Caleb Ekuban injured, Thomas Christiansen doesn’t have a wealth of quality options and, as a result, the Leeds boss should consider giving Egzjan Alioski chances up top every now and again.
The versatile Macedonia attacker played up front for Swiss outfit Lugano at times last season, scoring six goals and setting up another seven in 11 games as a striker, according to Transfermarkt.
It’s not an immaculate goalscoring record up front, but it’s good enough to suggest that Christiansen should consider him when the situation calls for it.
Of course, the dream is that a hardened, red-hot Championship striker will arrive through the doors before the month is out, but if that fails to materialise then Christiansen must work with what he has.
Samu Saiz’s six-match ban means that the United boss doesn’t have the luxury for such experiments at the moment, but surely there will be times this season when Leeds need a wild card, maybe in the last 20 minutes of a level game, and can Alioski be any worse than Jay-Roy Grot?
