Should Leeds United take an interest in Samu Saiz’s former team-mate?

With nine goals and six assists in all competitions, Samu Saiz has arguably been Leeds United’s Player of the Season.

The Spanish playmaker has been superb for Leeds since his £3.1 million summer move from Huesca, but the Whites are 14th in the Championship.

The bad thing about being a brilliant player in an ordinary team is that United might be vulnerable to losing him this summer.

If they do, should Director of Football Victor Orta go fishing in the same pond as he found him in?

Saiz is superb but Segunda Division side Huesca haven’t missed him, with Gonzalo Melero coming to the fore in a big way since his compatriot left for Elland Road.

The 27-year-old bagged 12 goals in 39 league games last season, but Melero has already reached that number in 10 fewer games this time around and you wonder whether Leeds could view him as a potential replacement.

Huesca, who sit top of the table, are heading for the Primera Division at the moment and therefore would be far less reluctant to lose one of their stars if they win promotion. Considering he is also three years younger than Saiz, Leeds might have to break the bank to get him, but if he is good as Saiz then it’ll be money well spent.
