Leeds United need a striker, and one of their former forwards is available.
One of Leeds United’s lowest deadline day moments in recent years was the last ditch sale of striker Matt Smith in 2014,
This was made worse by the club’s social media account telling fans to wait up for some exciting news, which simply resulted in the announcement of a player departure.
Fulham’s Matt Smith
Smith joined Fulham and after a disappointing start at the club which saw him loaned to Bristol City, the striker has established himself as a useful squad member.

A squad player is precisely what Leeds need up front right now, to provide an alternative for Chris Wood, and Smith possesses some of the same physical attributes as the New Zealand international.
What’s more, Smith could actually be available for transfer.
West London Sport report that Smith is a transfer target for QPR, with Fulham keen to add another striker of their own before the transfer deadline.
Leeds are in a similar scenario, lacking quality back up for Wood, with Marcus Antonsson failing his audition against Sutton United at the weekend in a surprise 1-0 loss.

Smith may not be a 20 goal a season striker, but that isn’t what Leeds need, they already have one of those. The 27-year-old would be required to chip in when he plays, and would not need any adjustment in terms of settling in as a Leeds player.
Buying in January is tough for clubs, but in Smith, Leeds would be getting a known commodity, and a player who may relish a chance of finishing what he started at his former side.
