Leeds United could sign one of Norwich City’s players for a change.

Leeds United boasted one of the Championship’s most watertight defences in 2016-17, conceding the fewest goals of any club outside the top six.

But with the two men at the heart of it, Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson, not guaranteed to be around next season, the Whites would be wise to consider alternatives.

Should Ryan Bennett be among them?

Who is he?

A 27-year-old centre-back, most recently of Leeds’ Championship rivals Norwich City. The Canaries paid £3.5 million to sign Bennett from Peterborough United in 2012, but released him along with six other high-earning stars after failing to gain promotion back to the Premier League this season.

What would Leeds be getting?

A solid top-end Championship performer (at the very least) with more than 150 appearances in English football’s highest two divisions, and someone who is perhaps in need of a fresh start after losing his way a bit this season. He’s a good age (27), height (6’2″) and can play in more than one position (right-back too, if required) – for FREE.

What are their chances of signing him?

It depends on which clubs are keen. Brighton have been linked, but Leeds would be among the most appealing Championship options if they were to show an interest. Wages could be the other sticking point, although the loss of Bartley, Jansson or both should free up funds.
