Harlee Dean has just one year left on his contract at Brentford. Should Leeds United move?

Brentford centre-back Harlee Dean faces an uncertain future at the club after he was removed as captain by manager Dean Smith.

Smith told Get West London this was because of Dean having only one year remaining on his contract and the defender so fare refusing to commit to the club.

Championship clubs are likely to be strongly interested in the 26-year-old, and Leeds United are one who should consider him considering their need at centre back.

Leeds have Pontus Jansson as an automatic starter at the position but beyond that they have only last season’s third choice Liam Cooper, and loanee Matthew Pennington, who picked up an injury at the weekend.

Dean has 245 Championship appearances to his name all with Brentford, and his rugged style would see him forge a robust partnership with Jansson.

Leeds had been linked to Bristol City’s Aden Flint, but he could be set to sign with Birmingham City instead, the Birmingham Mail report.

Dean would be a strong alternative and one who stands up well in comparison to Kyle Bartley last season.

He won the ball back 204 times compared to the Leeds loanee’s 186, and won more aerial duels – 178 to 163.

Given Dean’s contract status and Brentford’s admission he could leave if the right offer comes in, now would be an opportune time for Leeds to test the waters.
