Everton defender Luke Garbutt began his career with Leeds United.

Garbutt was hoping to leave Everton on loan, but no switch materialised and he has now been consigned to a role in the reserves.
And there now has to be a question over whether Leeds United would have been better off moving for Garbutt, rather than Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Leeds signed Borthwick-Jackson from United to add depth to their options at left-back, but he has barely featured so far.
Garbutt, meanwhile, has been in brilliant form for Everton’s under-23 side – and Unsworth has suggested that the 24-year-old is getting back to his best.
Garbutt was once considered to be one of Everton’s best prospects, but he has stagnated in recent times, after a series of failed loan spells.

A move to Leeds would surely have appealed to the England youth international, as he knows the club well.
Garbutt developed in Leeds’ youth academy, before moving to Everton, and a move back to Elland Road could have been perfect for the defender, who appears to be getting his career back on track now.
