Leeds United attacker Caleb Ekuban has the pace and element of surprise to terrorise Aston Villa’s Alan Hutton.
Summer signing Caleb Ekuban certainly did enough to keep a spot in Leeds United’s first XI for his performance in the 2-0 win at Barnsley last weekend.
But if Pierre-Michel Lasogga – who has missed out recently with illness – is fighting fit for tomorrow’s visit of Aston Villa to Elland Road then head coach Thomas Christiansen will have a bit of a dilemma.
He fluffed a few decent chances at Oakwell and Lasogga, with five goals in 10 games, might be the more natural goalscorer between the two, but that does not mean there is no room for the 23-year-old.
Christiansen should consider starting the jet-heeled £500,000 addition on the left-hand side of attack, where he could and probably would terrorise Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton. Ekuban’s stand-out quality thus far is his electric pace and such an asset would surely give the 32-year-old a tough time tomorrow night.
It would mean breaking up Leeds’ triumvirate of Pablo Hernandez, Samu Saiz and Egzjan Alioski, and the trio have been brilliant as of late, but Hernandez’s defensive work is questionable and Ekuban seems a lot more likely to track back, helping Gaetano Berardi with Robert Snodgrass and Hutton going forward.
Defensively, Hutton has been superb for Villa this season, but the 23-year-old has the skills, pace and the element of surprise to give him a torrid evening and Christiansen should consider it.
