Leeds United should consider offering the struggling Newcastle United signing a loan spell if his first-team prospects don’t pick up.

By virtue of the fact that Jacob Murphy has played 71 of a possible 630 minutes in the Premier League for Newcastle United, you could say that his £12 million move isn’t going according to plan.

At this rate you wonder whether the 22-year-old could request to leave on loan in January and if he does then the Championship seems a logical destination.

Should Leeds United try with a cheeky loan attempt for the former Norwich City star when the window re-opens?

Do Leeds need a left-wing option? Not really – they have a bunch. Question is, would Murphy be an improvement their existing options?

With nine goals in the Championship, he scored more from that position than Kemar Roofe and Stuart Dallas combined last season, and grabbed six assists – one less than Roofe in five less matches.

But United boss Thomas Christiansen doesn’t really know his best left winger, evident by the fact Samu Saiz and Egzjan Alioski – who started there in the 3-0 defeat by Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday – have also played there at times this season.

Saiz and Alioski have been excellent for the most part but they have occasionally been found wanting and a more consistent, more productive and more Championship-hardened figure could be a big asset in their promotion push.

If Murphy is good enough to command an eight-figure transfer fee then he is good enough for Leeds and Director of Football Victor Orta should consider offering him a short stint in West Yorkshire. If his Newcastle prospects don’t improve then he might well accept it.
