Should Leeds United target Bartosz Bialkowski this summer?

If rumours are to be believed then Leeds United are keen on signing goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds want the Manchester City-owned goalkeeper on a season-long loan next term folllowing his impressive stint at Norwich City during the 2017-18 campaign.

On the face of it, it may be a shrewd deal for the Whites if they can pull it off, but if a better, permanent option is attainable then that should be the priority for Director of Football Victor Orta.

Ipswich Town keeper Bartosz Bialkowski only signed a contract extension at Portman Road in January, but the longer Ipswich go without replacing Mick McCarthy, the more unsettling it will be for the playing staff and Leeds should enquire about bringing the 30-year-old to Elland Road.

Bialkowski may turn 31 in July, but he still has plenty of good years left in him as a goalkeeper and maybe it’s time that United start planning for the long term.

As good as 22-year-old Gunn might be, Leeds have seen Kyle Bartley and Matthew Pennington return to their parent clubs after season-long loans over the past two years and perhaps Gunn would do the same if he impresses in West Yorkshire.

The one-time Poland international, valued at £4 million in January [The Sun], made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Championship last season and is a better, more reliable long-term option for the Whites than someone who will probably be back at Eastlands this time next year.

Recruiting a more senior figure also offers the chance for Bailey Peacock-Farrell, 21, to learn from a wiser, more experienced figure and that can only serve him well down the line.
