Leeds United summer signing Gjanni Alioski has not looked particularly impressive in recent weeks.
Of all the signings to arrive at Leeds during the summer with no prior Championship experience, Ezgjan Alioski was arguably the man who arrived with the most impressive run of form behind him in the build-up to his Elland Road move.
The Macedonia international had scored 16 times for Lugano last term to finish as their top goalscorer – but he has so far failed to find that form on a regular basis since arriving in the Championship.
The 25-year-old has not scored or provided an assist in the league since August. And while he played well in the 3-0 win over Bristol City earlier this month, his general form in recent times has been extremely underwhelming.
So perhaps Thomas Christiansen should consider making a simple change to try and change the winger’s fortunes after a difficult spell.
Alioski has spent much of the campaign playing on the right flank, and has frequently been seen trying to cut back onto his favoured left foot rather than get down the line and whip a cross in from there. And when he has got to the line, the crosses have often been poor.
The wide-man showed his best form for Lugano last term when deployed on the left, and Christiansen should look to play him there more often as Leeds are crying out for width and an Alioski who can cause opponents problems.
At the moment, he is not causing full-backs many issues and seems to generally become redundant in games, so putting him on the opposite flank where he may be more inclined to get down the line and put in a cross for Pierre-Michel Lasogga may not be a bad idea.
Alioski may have been struggling for a while, but there is no question that if it starts clicking for him, Christiansen could have a brilliant player on his hands. Finding out what will make it click is the boss’ challenge.
