Leeds need a centre-back and Curtis Davies should be an option.
The Daily Mirror have claimed in their transfer news blog (1.39pm, Wednesday) that new Stoke City manager Gary Rowett is looking to raid former side Derby County for Curtis Davies, but surely Leeds should throw their hat into the ring?
Leeds are likely to be after a centre-back this summer following questionable campaigns from Liam Cooper and Matthew Pennington – the latter being on loan from Everton and a permanent deal yet to be concluded.
The Whites have been linked with a move to sign Kyle Bartley from Swansea, after earning fan favourite status at Elland Road during his 2016-17 loan in Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claim Leeds are interested in the former Arsenal rock, but Scottish giants Rangers are also looking to lure Bartley back to Ibrox. If Rangers win the race to land the defender, surely Davies would be the next-best option?
Davies, 33, also has admirers from the Premier League in the form of Brighton, but first-team football is likely to be high on his agenda at his age and a move to the top tier of English football may see his chances of just that deteriorate.
Former Hull City defender Davies, who joined Derby for just £500,000, has starred at the back for the Rams under Rowett before the latter took the job at Stoke. He started every single one of Derby’s 46 league games, and their two play-off semi-finals.
The Derby skipper has a year remaining on his contract at Pride Park, and boasts the reputation as one of the Championship’s best equipped centre-backs.
Surely then, if Leeds do indeed miss out on Bartley, Davies would be the perfect second-choice defender at Elland Road this summer.
