Lee Bowyer’s Charlton are eyeing a player that would be perfect for Leeds.
Former Leeds United winger Lee Bowyer has impressed in his first foray into management with League One outfit Charlton Athletic and now he is said to be interested in raiding former side West Ham – but Leeds should beat him to it.
London News Online claim Charlton are interested in signing the 22-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan this summer, despite Cullen’s current West Ham contract set to expire at the end of next season.
West Ham could let Cullen leave on loan after completing the signing of Jack Wilshere on a free transfer from Arsenal, adding to their midfield options along with Pedro Obiang, Cheikhou Kouyate, Mark Noble and Edimilson Fernandes.
Cullen spent last season on loan at Bolton before returning to West Ham in January to feature for the Hammers’ first team nine times under former manager David Moyes.
Bowyer wants Cullen to forefront his promotion campaign with Charlton after The Addicks lost in the play-offs last term, but Leeds should look to beat the former Whites Champions League hero to the signing of the Irish star.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claim Leeds have put Ireland international Eunan O’Kane up for sale, with Marcelo Bielsa unimpressed with the 28-year-old’s performances last season.
That should convince the Argentine boss to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer and Cullen would be a fantastic addition to the Leeds side – with the midfielder’s work ethic mirroring the kind of style O’Kane shows.
Having Cullen in the side would allow midfielders Kalvin Phillips and Lewis Baker to shine and bringing the best out of the latter duo is crucial to Leeds’ chances of promotion. Adding Cullen would certainly help do that.
