Celtic are reportedly interested in Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, but would he be perfect at Leeds?

Many have blamed the appointment of Victor Orta as director of football at Leeds United this season, while others have bemoaned Andrea Radrizzani’s efforts of keeping Garry Monk.

The Whites sit way down in 14th place, with another two managers struggling to meet expectations. But perhaps the biggest hit to Leeds’ promotion chances this term was the sale of Chris Wood in the summer.

The New Zealander scored 30 goals last season, and has shown his prowess with eight Premier League strikes in 19 top-tier outings this season. Without Wood, Leeds have struggled.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is simply not cut out for Championship football, while Caleb Ekuban needs time to grow. Orta must bring in a proven Championship goalscorer, with promotion on his CV.

Step forward Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, who could be set to leave the Tigers this summer as his contract expires in less than three months. It appears that a new deal is unlikely to be offers with such little time left.

Despite featuring only eight times this season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Uruguay international Hernandez has still scored seven goals and has been promoted with Hull in 2015-16.

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani looks on before the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Leeds United at iPro Stadium on February 21, 2018 in Derby, England.

27 Championship goals in 47 outings, on a free and promotion experience. The perfect buy, then? If Leeds do intend on looking to land the former Palermo ace, they may find competition from a Champions League side.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim Scottish champions Celtic are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old striker, but Leeds must do everything within their financial power to push the Hoops aside and land Hernandez’s signature.

It would finally add the missing ingredient in a Leeds side lacking in a goalscorer, as they look to forget about the 2017-18 campaign and launch another promotion charge next time around – perhaps with Hernandez.
