Leeds United need a new manager and the Spaniard is currently sixth-favourite for the job.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio shortly before Garry Monk’s shock resignation at Leeds United, the Whites’ owner Andrea Radrizzani had approached former Watford boss Walter Mazzarri about the prospect of taking charge at Elland Road.

The 55-year-old allegedly had no interest in managing in the Championship, but the need for a new manager became vital soon after when Monk shocked Leeds fans with his decision to leave after just one campaign.

For now, the search for a new boss goes on, so what chance Radrizzani approaching another former Watford manager in the form of Quique Sanchez Flores?

After all, the 52-year-old has swiftly moved up the betting to sit as the 14/1 sixth-favourite for the Leeds role with Sky Bet.

They are still big odds, and Flores is employed by La Liga side Espanyol, but if Radrizzani is aiming for big things at Leeds he would be wise to at least scope out the possibility of bringing the Spaniard back to England.

Bookies rarely throw names into the hat for no reason, so there could be a suggestion that Leeds are considering what would be one of the most ambitious moves of the summer.

Considering Flores guided Espanyol to an eighth-placed finish in his homeland last season, he may well be looking ahead in the hope of improving on that in 2018.

But Leeds are a sleeping giant and with the right man at the helm they could finally get back to the top flight.

If the former Watford boss feels he has unfinished business in England after his unfair dismissal by the Hornets, it could be the ideal move for all concerned.
