Fulham are reportedly set to sign Matt Targett from Southampton on loan deal. Should Leeds get into the act quickly and hijack the move?

According to a recent report from The Sun, Championship club Fulham are interested in signing Southampton left-back Matt Targett in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old left-back has made only two Premier League appearances for the Saints, managing 167 minutes of action.

Southampton have Ryan Bertrand as their first choice left-back, and Sam McQueen as a cover for him. With him struggling for regular games, Southampton are looking to send him on loan to gain regular experience.

The report claims that Targett is on the verge of agreeing a deal to play for Fulham until the end of the season.

In the transfer window anything can happen and before Fulham get their target, should Leeds move quickly and attempt to hijack the deal?

The left-back is one area where Leeds could be looking to invest in the January transfer window. Gaetano Berardi is their first choice, but he has missed games due to injury, and the club have struggled to find a solution during his absence.

Loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have been very disappointing and he could return to his parent club. Therefore, signing a left-back is a priority.

Given that Targett is available on loan, Leeds should make a move quickly to lure him to move to Elland Road.
