Leeds United reportedly wanted Danny Ings ahead of the January transfer window, so perhaps Marcelo Bielsa should look at the striker this summer.

It would have taken a huge number of Leeds fans by surprise last September when ESPN reported that the Whites were interested in Danny Ings, and perhaps few would have seriously expected the club to actually land the Liverpool striker during the January transfer window.

Ings has endured a torrid time at Anfield, but boasted a superb record in the Premier League with Burnley and seems to carry himself in a way that would make him a popular addition to most top flight sides.

The Liverpool Echo hints that a summer departure could possibly be on the cards. Jurgen Klopp is a massive fan of the 25-year-old, but will seemingly not stand in his way if the right offer comes in.

And while a loan move to the Championship may perhaps not be the right offer, Leeds should certainly consider an ambitious bid in the hope that they can convince the Englishman to head to Elland Road for a season.

Leeds undoubtedly need to strengthen their striker options, and while a loan move would not be ideal, getting a player of Ings’ calibre in for a season would unquestionably be a major statement of intent from a club that has already made one of those this summer with the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa.

If Ings can stay fit, he could be the perfect striker for Bielsa. He works extremely hard while leading the line and is not afraid to get stuck in while the opposition have the ball. And he proved in his last two seasons with the Clarets that he can be lethal in front of goal, scoring 32 goals in 75 league games, including 11 in 35 following their promotion.

And perhaps the prospect of working with Bielsa may tempt Ings to consider any possible Leeds bid much more seriously than he may have previously.

A brilliant year at Leeds could put Ings in the shop window or may even convince Klopp to hand him another chance on Merseyside. It is a gamble for the Whites given his previous injury struggles and his potential wages – Spotrac reports that he earns £75,000-a-week at Anfield, so Leeds would need a major helping hand from the Reds to facilitate a move – but it could prove to be the kind of gamble that turns into a masterstroke for all concerned.
