Leeds United could strengthen their goalkeeping options quite considerably in January with a move for West Ham United’s Adrian.

Hammers goalkeeper Adrian has been dropped by Slaven Bilic as the club’s first-choice stopper, and with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2017, there is a good chance that he will not remain at the club beyond the end of this season.

Should Leeds consider a move for the Spaniard in January, and test West Ham’s resolve with a formal offer?

Robert Green will be 37 in January, and he is quite clearly not the goalkeeper he once was, with his advancing years beginning to have an adverse effect on his performances.

Adrian, 29, is now entering what is considered to be the prime years of a goalkeeper’s career, and despite his history of making the odd mistake, he has still proven to be a top-class shot-stopper for the Hammers.

The Whites do have Marco Silvestri, but his pedigree at the highest level is questionable to say the least, with a succession of high profile mistakes last season eventually proving costly, as Green was signed to replace him as the number one goalkeeper at Elland Road.

Adrian has the ability to provide Leeds boss Garry Monk with a fantastic base from which to build his defensive unit, and could potentially make an already strong Whites defence even better.

The Spaniard moved to East London on a free transfer in the summer of 2013, and has gone on to make 117 appearances for the Irons.

But with Bilic now seemingly in favour of Darren Randolph, and his reported interest in bringing Joe Hart to the club (the Telegraph), it seems as if the writing is on the wall for Adrian.

And Leeds should seriously consider moving for him in January, if they want to strengthen their goalkeeping options, and cement their status as genuine promotion contenders.
