Leeds United reportedly wanted Emiliano Martinez in January, and should now perhaps consider another bid for the goalkeeper.
As impressive as Bailey Peacock-Farrell was during the final weeks of last season, it would probably be a huge gamble for new Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa not to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after the problems that plagued the Whites during the previous campaign.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that a loan deal for Angus Gunn is a top priority, and with Bielsa’s connections to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, it would certainly appear that a move may be extremely possible.
But if a move for Gunn does not take place, perhaps Bielsa should look at his other connections amongst the Premier League giants and consider a pursuit of a player that Leeds reportedly wanted in January.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that the 62-year-old is also well linked with Arsenal, and that should perhaps tempt Leeds to also have a look at Emi Martinez.
AS Argentina reported in January that Leeds wanted the 25-year-old goalkeeper who was on loan at Getafe at the time. Of course, the deal would not take place, but perhaps the Whites would have more luck now that Bielsa is at the helm.
It seems unlikely that Martinez will play a prominent role for Arsenal next season, so perhaps the new Leeds boss should target his countryman, who now boasts experience in the Premier League, La Liga and Championship.
Martinez is edging towards the peak years of his career, so any kind of deal could be a superb move for Leeds – and with Bielsa in the dugout, it would perhaps be possible that the Gunners would be much more willing to discuss a move ahead of next season.
