Should Leeds join race for John Egan’s £6m-rated teammate Ryan Woods?

Leeds United are reportedly considering a move for John Egan, but perhaps his teammate would also be worth targeting this summer.

With the Yorkshire Evening Post recently reporting that Leeds are considering a move for Matej Vydra this summer, it would certainly appear that Andrea Radrizzani is considering loosening the purse strings during this window with Derby wanting at least £10 million before they consider selling the forward.

Still nursing the scars of their financial implosion from almost two decades ago, it is only in the last couple of years that Leeds have seemingly started paying seven-figures fees on a fairly regular basis again. And now with the interest in a potential eight-figure move for Vydra, it would appear that the Whites can certainly set their sights a little higher than normal this summer.

The Yorkshire Evening Post also recently suggested that Brentford’s John Egan is a target as Leeds look to strengthen their defensive options. Egan would be a shrewd signing with the Bees arguably one of the most underrated teams in the Championship over the last few years – they get nowhere near the credit they deserve having finished in the top 10 every year since their promotion from League One four years ago.

One of the key reasons for their success, in recent years anyway, is Ryan Woods. The 24-year-old is arguably one of the classiest players in the second tier, and is now attracting attention from West Brom, with Birmingham Live reporting that the Baggies are preparing a £6 million bid for the midfielder.

And with Leeds now seemingly in an era where they are prepared to pay substantial fees for players, perhaps the Whites would be making a mistake if they did not make Woods the Brentford player that they target this summer.

As important as Egan could perhaps be to a Leeds defence that desperately needs strengthening, Woods could quite easily become a focal point of the side if the Whites decided to target him and managed to bring him to Elland Road.

The former Shrewsbury ace is a superb passer of the ball and seems to be one of those players who absolutely loves to drop into space and dictate the game around him. He certainly did it when Leeds were dismantled by the Bees at Griffin Park this past season.

It would perhaps be a surprise if Brentford were happy with the Baggies’ £6 million offer, but perhaps Leeds should seriously think about attempting to make a major statement by joining the race as adding Woods to their options in the middle of the park has the potential to be an inspired decision.
