With Leeds looking to use the summer to try and find that missing ingredient that will enable them to challenge and subsequently hold onto a play-off spot next season, the new manager may want to consider opening the door to one of the players who simply could not get a look in during Garry Monk’s tenure.

Luke Murphy endured a mixed time at Elland Road before former boss Monk’s arrival, occasionally showing flashes of true quality but often struggling for consistency and with injuries.

Nevertheless, it was arguably still something of a surprise when he was virtually exiled from the first-team during the first few months of Monk’s tenure, only getting a chance for the Whites when they took on Luton in the League Cup.

The 27-year-old ended up joining the Whites’ Championship rivals Burton Albion on loan in January, and did well at the Pirelli Stadium, helping the Brewers stay up in the second tier.

And while he would certainly not address every issue within the Leeds midfield that ultimately helped cost them a play-off spot, he arguably did enough to earn another chance, even if that opportunity only comes during pre-season.

And if Murphy did receive another chance now that Monk has gone, he would surely have a significant amount of determination to make the most of the chance given how bleak his Elland Road future previously looked, perhaps helping him become a much more consistent player, and thus, potentially making him a decent option to have as the club try to surpass what they achieved last year.
