But the versatile Dutchman is not the only Magpies player out of contract this summer, and another one, Yoan Gouffran, could be of use to the Whites.

Where would he fit at Leeds?

The Championship side are two wingers down on last season, after Mo Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza returned to their parent clubs, and at least one new face should arrive in Gouffran’s position.

What would he bring to Thomas Christiansen’s team?

The Frenchman can play on either flank and even up front if required, potentially easing the burden on last season’s top scorer Chris Wood, who’s had a busy summer. He’s got plenty of pace and the end product to match, scoring five goals and creating four to help Newcastle secure the second tier title. That promotion experience could come in handy in Yorkshire.

Would he leave Newcastle for Elland Road?

The Magpies have offered him a new deal, though it remains unsigned. Rafa Benitez’s side have been linked with a string of wingers this summer, so Gouffran can perhaps expect a reduced role if he commits. While Leeds may struggle to match the 31-year-old’s earnings on Tyneside, they could potentially lure him with the promise of regular game time.
