Leeds United have been linked with more midfielders in January but should they be strengthening other areas instead?
With January fast approaching, Leeds United fans will be getting excited about the prospect of more new faces arriving at Elland Road. However the latest reports suggest they are looking in the wrong areas.
Team Talk claims Leeds are interested in signing Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill, while a report from the Daily Mail suggests the Whites are also keeping a close eye on Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela.
But do Leeds really need more players for their central area given the presence of Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Connor Shaughnessy?
If summer signing Mateusz Klich cannot even get a look-in at Elland Road, the prospect of adding another body to the mix in January makes little sense, especially when Leeds really need an out-and-out left-back and another striker if their current options do not start finding the net regularly.
If injuries and suspensions take their toll in the second half of the campaign, Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen may need another midfielder to call on, but that should not be a main area of focus next month.
With a couple of smart additions Leeds could ensure they finally earn promotion back to the top flight come May. But with Vieira and Phillips excelling in the centre and O’Kane a more than able deputy, Vela and Brownhill are targets for another day.
