Everyone around Leeds United is understandably ecstatic after a great start to the new season, but do the players need to ensure they don’t become overconfident.

The Whites are top of the Championship during the international break on goal difference, as they have won four and drawn two of their opening six fixtures.

Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking style is becoming to come into effect at Elland Road and many are tipping the Yorkshire giants for promotion.

But Leeds will remember being in a strong position in the early months of last season, before seeing their form completely drop away.

Current Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has come out with some confident statements about the quality of his side in comparison to the rest of the division.

“We kind of think there is no team that is fitter than us in this league and there is no team that plays better football than us in the league,” Phillips told LUTV.

“I think that it gives us a real confidence boost and I think anyone we will play now I think they will realise that once we start playing against them.

“I think if we get it right over the next couple of weeks I think we could be in a really strong position.”

Should Leeds fans be worried that complacency is creeping into the players?

It’s very unlikely that Bielsa will allow that to happen with his squad and will be well aware that they will hit a tough point in the season at some point.

But there really appears to have been a mentality shift at Leeds over the summer and you could just view Phillips’ comments as the sort of winning mentality that can drive you to promotion.
