After links with Bolton’s Josh Vela and Bristol City’s Josh Brownhill, reports state that Manchester United’s Scott McTominay is on Leeds’ radar.
You won’t need reminding of the bad blood that exists between the United’s of Manchester and Leeds. But that history of bitter rivalry does not mean the Premier League giants are not willing to share their young talents with their Yorkshire enemies.
Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is the latest Red Devil to spend time at Elland Road and, according to The Sun, the left-back may be joined in West Yorkshire by talented midfielder Scott McTominay.
The report claims that Leeds are battling Preston and Bolton to sign the 21-year-old in January. As it stands, however, it remains uncertain whether McTominay will be allowed to leave with the academy graduate valued very highly by manager Jose Mourinho, who has made him part of his first-team squad this season.
But while McTominay, who has played three times in the Champions League this season, undoubtedly has huge potential, is there reason for Leeds fans to be a little concerned by reports that their club is attempting to lure him to Elland Road on a temporary deal?
McTominay is not the first midfielder linked with Leeds in December. The Mail claimed that Leeds are interested in Bolton Wanderers’ tenacious Josh Vela while Bristol City star Josh Brownhill is also on their radar, according to TEAMtalk.
And it must be noted that a number of Leeds fans have accused owner Andrea Radrizzani of refusing to put his hand in his pocket since taking over from Massimo Cellino. Most of The Whites’ summer signings were affordable, imported and often unknown after all.
So suggestions that Leeds could attempt to sign McTominay on a short-term deal, rather than putting their money where their mouth is and bidding for Vela and Brownhill, could once again be seen as a lack of ambition.
