Rob Green has been linked with a move away from Leeds United, so perhaps Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Andy Lonergan may be a smart signing.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Rob Green may well become the latest goalkeeper to leave Leeds United this summer following Marco Silvestri’s departure.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Green is likely to seek a move away from Elland Road if Felix Wiedwald is Thomas Christiansen’s number one for the coming season – potentially leaving youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the German’s main understudy.
Leeds United’s Robert Green
Although Peacock-Farrell has the potential to challenge Wiedwald, it is perhaps a gamble for Leeds to go into the new campaign without a more experienced stopper to challenge the former Werder Bremen man.
With that in mind, perhaps Leeds should consider offering a familiar face the chance to come back to the club as he faces an uncertain future with his current side.
Andy Lonergan spent just one season on Leeds’ books and was arguably one of the best performers during the year he spent with the club.
The Express and Star reports that the Wolves stopper is free to leave Molineux this summer, so perhaps he would be an ideal option to consider – given that he would bring a huge amount of experience and may be available for a small fee given Wolves’ willingness to let him go.

He may be keen to be the number one at his next club, but the chance to return to his old side and be Wiedwald’s understudy may begin to appeal if few offers come his way.
And if Green does decide to move on, then bringing the 33-year-old back to Elland Road may be a wise, low-risk move from the Whites to ensure that they have plenty of depth between the sticks.
