Leeds United need to add depth in several positions this summer, and Blackburn Rovers’ Charlie Mulgrew arguably addresses a number of problems.
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
While Leeds fans may be uninspired about the idea of signing a player whose side have been relegated from the Championship this season, one of Blackburn Rovers’ key men may be a great addition to Garry Monk’s squad.
Charlie Mulgrew has arguably been one of Rovers’ best players this term, so would surely be forgiven for targeting a move away from Ewood Park if he wanted to stay in the Championship.
And Leeds should arguably offer him the chance to make that move as his arrival would add depth in a number of areas where Monk should be looking to strengthen this summer.
The former Celtic man has predominantly featured at centre-back this term. And regardless of whether Leeds manage to hold onto Pontus Jansson and loanee Kyle Bartley, the Whites still need to add more options at the heart of their defence with Liam Cooper enduring a mixed season and few other options to speak of.

Meanwhile, he can also play at left-back which – despite Gaetano Berardi’s form – is a position where Leeds should strengthen with Charlie Taylor’s departure now seeming imminent.
And as Mulgrew can also feature in central midfield, there is no reason why Monk could not look at him as another rival for the likes of Liam Bridcutt, Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park.
And with the 31-year-old scoring a stunning free-kick in Blackburn’s win over Brentford on the final day of the campaign – that was not enough to keep them up however – he demonstrated that he could add just that little bit of quality that could help Leeds go one step further next season.
